Musée d’art moderne de Céret announces the publication of the monograph Teresa Lanceta: La mémoire tissée, accompanying the artist’s first major survey presentation in France.
Born in Barcelona in 1951, Teresa Lanceta adopted weaving as her main means of expression in the 1970s, fostering a deeply reciprocal engagement of artistic traditions and sustained dialogues across geographies, cultures, and socioeconomic contexts. Over the course of her encounters in Morocco or in the Romani communities of Spain, Lanceta has built for herself a repertoire of shapes with a universal reach. The lines and signs employed by the artist create a language that intertwines collective and individual memories. Her work is a testament to the consideration of sometimes marginalized textile cultures and practices. This retrospective at Musée d'art moderne de Céret presents a vast panorama of more than seventy works across Lanceta’s career, including textiles, paintings, drawings, ceramics, and video, and many formerly unpublished piece.
Written in French, Spanish, and English, the monograph for La mémoire tissée features a section-by-section presentation of the exhibition, along with an interview between Teresa Lanceta and exhibition co-curator Gwendoline Corthier-Hardoin, an essay by co-curator and museum Director Jean Roch, and an essay by Jessica Hemmings, Professor of Craft at Gothenburg University, Sweden.
Teresa Lanceta: La mémoire tissée is on view at Musée d’art moderne de Céret through June 2, 2024. The exhibition catalogue can be purchased through the museum store.
